T.O Haas Tire & Auto’s Wheel Buying Guide
- Alloy Wheels are light wheels with improved performance characteristics. These light wheels increase cornering and steering precision, and decrease road feedback for better braking response.
- Steel Wheels are heavier wheels that provide vehicles with a lower center of gravity. Steel wheels are perfect for harsh road conditions in the snow or off-road over rugged terrain, but lack other performance capabilities because of the added weight.
- Chrome is an aesthetically pleasing finish applied to both alloy and steel wheels. Chrome wheels are sought by drivers concerned with cosmetic appearance. While chrome wheels are known for their metallic mirrored shine, durability, and strength, they require regular attention and cleaning to maintain their visual appeal.
Wheels & Rims: The Manufacturing Process
- Cast Wheels: Aluminum wheels are manufactured through a process of pouring molten aluminum into a mold. The shape of the wheel is formed through a process of gravity or pressure casting.
- Machined Wheels: The machining process combines casting, heating, spinning, and precise pressurization to fill a mold with molten aluminum and shape the wheel.
- Forged Wheels: The forging process takes a solid piece of aluminum and molds the wheel through high heat and extreme pressure. The result is a light, dense, and strong wheel.
The right set of wheels depends on vehicle characteristics and desired ride quality. When choosing wheels for your car, truck, or SUV, consider the following:
- Size: Various wheel sizes and weights hold different performance characteristics. If you plan on upgrading your current wheel size, be sure to consider the maximum wheel size allowance on your vehicle.
- Weight: Wheel weight impacts vehicle performance. Heavier wheels increase braking distance and reduce handling, while lighter wheels will improve maneuverability and braking performance.
- Terrain: Where do you drive most often? Wheels should be selected based on their primary function.
Every customer’s criteria for buying wheels is different, so we urge you to contact us with your questions or concerns. Our service staff is comprised of wheel and rim experts who remain on the cutting edge of wheel style, configuration, and performance.

Tire Shop FAQs
Why is T.O. Haas the best tire shop in Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa?
No matter where you are, a reliable tire shop shouldn’t just be a place to buy new tires. Your local tire store should also provide all the tire services and advice you could ever ask for, all handled by highly qualified employees. Since your tires are among the most critical parts of your vehicle, you shouldn’t neglect the quality of service your tire shop can deliver.
T.O. Haas Tire & Auto can help you find new tires that perfectly fit your vehicle and driving habits. On top of that, we can work on tire rotation, balancing, tire repair, and various other tire-related services. And, no matter what service you need, you can rest assured knowing that it’s in the hands of our ASE-certified mechanics.
What services does your tire shop offer?
Whether you need new tires or tire repairs in Nebraska, the best stop for your tire needs in this state is T.O. Haas Tire & Auto. We offer a thorough range of tire services, including:
- Wheel balancing
- Wheel alignment
- Tire rotation
- Tire inflation
- Tire repair
However, even these services may not be enough to repair tires that have sustained significant damage. When that’s the case, our team of tire experts can help you find new tires that will meet your vehicle’s needs—all for a great price!
What makes tire rotation essential?
Being a responsible vehicle owner means keeping up on several preventative maintenance tasks, from oil changes to brake repairs. Compared to jobs like these, tire rotation—that is, simply changing the position of your tires on your vehicle—may not sound all that significant. But, as it turns out, rotating your tires on a regular basis can actually help them last longer and enhance your car’s handling.
On the other hand, ignoring tire rotation will make things harder for your vehicle in the long run. If you don’t rotate your tires every so often, your treads will wear out faster than expected. Making matters worse, they could wear unevenly, creating further issues as a result. To ensure these problems don’t arise, make a point of getting tire rotation taken care of every 3,000–7,000 miles (or simplify your maintenance schedule by booking this service along with oil changes).
What are the “standard” tire rotation patterns?
Essentially, there are three basic tire rotation patterns Nebraska drivers should be familiar with. While these can be modified as needed, these patterns are:
Forward Cross
In this pattern, we’ll move your front axle tires to the matching positions on the rear axle. The rear tires move diagonally—the right rear tire moves to the left front position and vice versa. This tire rotation pattern is commonly used for front-wheel drive vehicles.
X-Pattern
With the X-Pattern, we’ll move all of your tires diagonally. That means each wheel will switch both sides and axles. Like the Forward Cross pattern, this is often used for vehicles with front-wheel drive.
Rearward Cross
You can use the Rearward Cross pattern on vehicles with front-wheel, rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive. You can think of this pattern as an inverted version of the Forward Cross pattern—it involves the rear tires moving to their matching positions on the front axle and the front tires moving diagonally backward.
It can be challenging to pick a tire pattern if you aren’t already familiar with tire maintenance. Using different-sized, high-performance, or directional tires can further complicate this process. With all that in mind, it’s best to take your vehicle to a trustworthy tire shop like T.O. Haas for tire rotation.
Is tire rotation the same as tire balancing?
These tire services have similar names, but they are entirely different. Tire rotation focuses on where your tires are on your vehicle. Meanwhile, tire balancing is all about how much they weigh.
When you get tire balancing from T.O. Haas, our ASE-certified mechanics will mount your tires to a machine known as a “wheel balancer.” They can use this to check your tire weights and make sure these weights are equal. If that’s not the case, we’ll apply small weights to your tires until they’re precisely balanced.
When is it time to buy tires?
One straightforward way to know when you need new tires is to look at your tire treads. This is a relatively simple process—your tires’ grooves have tread wear bars that are only visible when your treads are worn down. When you can see these bars, it’s time to visit your nearest T.O. Haas tire shop for replacement tires.
In some cases, you might need tire replacement before your tires reach this point. Usually, that means you have significant tire damage, such as bulging, scalloping, scratches, or blisters. Even if you don’t have any of these problems, you might need to replace old tires since rubber becomes more likely to dry out and crack over time. And, if you’re wondering whether or not you need new tires, we’d be happy to give you advice!
Should all my tires be replaced at once?
In some situations, you may have a single damaged or worn tire while your other three tires seem to be in good condition. When that happens, it’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to pay to replace perfectly functional tires. However, there is a good reason to do so: Tires should have even tread wear, and replacing a single tire can cause problems in that regard.
That’s not to say you can never buy a standalone replacement tire. In fact, our team can sometimes shave new tire treads to match your existing tires. But this is only an option when your new tire is the same make and model as your older tires, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. As always, you can ask the team at T.O. Haas for more information on tire replacement.
What is the right tire pressure for my car?
To figure out what tire pressure you need, start by referring to your vehicle’s user manual or the sticker on your driver-side front door. The perfect tire pressure for your car’s default tires should be listed there.
While this can be very helpful, it won’t be much help if you no longer use the type of tires your car came with. If that’s the case, you can bring your vehicle to T.O. Haas to get our professional opinion.
Can I extend the lifespan of my tires?
Replacing your tires before you need to can be a real pain. Luckily, there are a few easy ways you can extend the lifespan of your tires:
- Doing regular tire pressure tests. Properly inflated tires are more durable than over- or underinflated tires. Check your tire pressure once a month, before any extended road trips, and whenever you suspect something might be amiss.
- Taking time for tire inspection. Looking for sidewall issues, foreign objects, and uneven tread wear can help you spot problems ASAP.
- Making an effort to drive carefully. The effects of pothole impacts, hard turns, braking, and speeding can all take a toll on your tires.
- Not going over your tires’ maximum load capacity.
- Having your tires inspected by a tire shop. T.O. Haas Tire & Auto can deliver all the tire services you need, including tire balancing, tire rotation, and more.
